Kerry Nicholls

Biography

With thirty years of acclaimed international experience in the dance sector, Kerry has established herself as a strong and influential voice within dance organizations, institutions, and companies worldwide through devising and delivering programs of training, mentoring and professional development.

Whilst based in the UK and after a portfolio performance career, Kerry was appointed Director of Creative Learning for Studio Wayne McGregor in 2007 – 2011 focusing on high-quality training and the professional development of the company dancers. She was the Artistic Advisor for English National Ballet School 2008 – 2015 and Interim Artistic Director for Scottish Dance Theatre in 2019. In 2014, Kerry was awarded a Lisa Ullmann Travelling Scholarship for an extensive period of research in the USA, assisting Liz Lerman and advancing her work in pedagogy, and communication and feedback approaches through the Critical Response Process.  Kerry has since been a regular choreographic mentor, judge and career consultant for English National Ballet, the Juilliard School, Rambert, the Royal Ballet, Royal Opera House and Scottish Ballet.

In 2012, Kerry launched her own professional development company, Kerry Nicholls Dance, where the various strands of her practice came together. As a Senior Creative Coach with a European Coaching Certificate, Kerry has supported established artists and prominent Artistic Directors, and has achieved extensive consultancy and organizational development scopes for Studio Wayne McGregor, the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, and Netherlands Dans Theater, to name a few, working with the latter two companies on the development of their Artistic Teams.

In 2019, Kerry became the Chair of ‘Move Beyond Words’ (a neuro diverse company amplifying the voices of artists with dyslexia) and an Ambassador for PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts) supporting an industry that is inclusive of all talents and circumstances. In 2021, Kerry joined English National Ballet in a full-time role as Associate Director, Artistic Development.
